Follow Up
April 15, 2:30 p.m. – Westford Police were dispatched to the vicinity of the Minot’s Corner station for a verbal domestic dispute between a man and a woman.
After an officer arrived in the area, an individual fitting the description of the male party in the dispute was located walking down Littleton Road with a backpack.
The officer asked the man to step over to the Gulf station to describe the situation. At that point another officer came into the Gulf station and asked the man to put his backpack on the hood of his vehicle.
The man refused to do this, saying the other officer had no right to search his backpack, but the initial officer assured the man it was a pat search for weapons.
No weapons were found by squeezing the bag, but .5 oz. of marijuana was discovered after smelling the aroma of the narcotics during the search.
The man then indicated that the argument was about what time he would pick up the woman, his girlfriend, from work.
A citation was issued for the marijuana and the man was advised not to go to the girlfriend’s house.
The original officer went to the girlfriend’s house and talked to her mother. An attempt was made to talk to the girlfriend, but she proved uncooperative.
April 19, 5:37 p.m. – A parking lot fender bender resulted in a man looking for legal advice from the Westford Police.
The man involved with the accident said that another individual, whose name he did not have, hit him on April 7, and agreed to pay damages, which eventually were estimated at $400.
However, the other vehicle operator refused to pay the man, who did not want to contact his insurance company for fear that his premiums would rise.
The officer at the station told the man that he’s required to file a report only if there are damages over $1,000 or personal injury, neither of which occurred at Market Basket.
And although the man was not looking to file a report, he was advised that reports must be filed within five days of an incident, making a police report here impossible in any case.
The man was advised that outside of contacting the insurance company, the only other avenue was taking the other individual to small claims court.
