Rebecca is a confident leader and role model, encouraging new members to rotate through the various technical stations involved in a broadcasting production. She is also quite comfortable as a news anchor, and brightens our day with her positive spirit. Her advisors commend her for outstanding service to the WABC club.”

ERIN AUGER - SOPHOMORE
Erin Auger, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Brian Auger was nominated by her Gymnastic Coach, Ms. Stephanie Anderson, for Student of the Month in the area of Athletics.
Ms. Anderson writes: “Last year Erin broke two school records for the Gymnastics Team. She told me at the start of this season that she was determined to break the balance beam record, a record that hasn’t been broken since 1993. We have had many gymnasts come close to matching the score, yet none to break it.
Last year, Erin came .5 points away from matching the score. After suffering an ankle injury during her fall sports season, we were unsure if she would be able to keep up with her goals. She has been fighting hard to qualify for individual states and keep up with her well-known records from last year. On 1/30/12, Erin shattered the balance beam record scoring a 9.65.
She had beaten the 9.45 score that was set 19 years ago, a record that was set three years before she was born. I nominate Erin for mostly her determination. Erin, only in her sophomore year now holds three school records. Erin comes to practice always in an upbeat mood and is always seen laughing and smiling. She also shows tears of joy when she breaks school records.”
JENNIFER MARRKAND SOPHOMORE
Jennifer, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Paul Marrkand has been named Westford Academy’s Student of the Month for January in the area of Athletics. Ms. Klick, Jennifer’s Swim and Dive coach writes:
“Jen, a sophomore member of the swimming and diving team, has set four school records this season. Jen was the Dual County League Champion in both the 200-Yard Individual Medley and the 100-yard Backstroke. At the league championships on February 3rd, she set meet records in both of her events. For her efforts, Jen was named a Dual County League All-Star for the second year in a row. One of the hardest workers on the teach, Jen always seems to swim her best when it matters most to her team.”
MICHAEL MURPHY - JUNIOR
Michael Murphy, son of Mr. & Mrs. Larry Murphy has been named Westford Academy’s Student of the Month for January in the area of Special Recognition. Mr. Scully, Michael’s History teacher writes:

Michael sometimes struggles in history but refuses to get down when things don’t come easy. He digs in and goes for help through Student Support Services. He never allows excuses to get in the way of achieving success. He is proactive and optimistic.”
“Michael is also respectful and courteous in his interactions with peers and teachers. He has developed a core set of values that permeate his connections with others and his approach is genuine and sincere. Finally, Michael’s work ethic is focused and disciplined. He epitomizes the ideals of Westford Academy and his highly deserving of this distinction.”
RENEE CRAIG - SOPHOMORE
Renee Craig, daughter of Mr. Nicholas Craig and Mr. & Mrs. Bill Leonard has been named Westford Academy’s Student of the Month for January. Mr. Bobrowsky, Renee’s Chemistry teacher nominated her in the area of Academics and he writes:
“Renee Craig has been a standout student in my Chemistry class all year long. She recently scored the highest score of all my students this year on her midterm exam. Even more impressive is that Renee prepared for her midterms while starring in Oleanna, David Mamet’s two-person play about the divisive relationship between a college student and her professor.
I can’t say enough about how impressed I have been with Renee this school year and how deserving she is of the honor of Student of the Month.”
CHRISTIAN YIP - SENIOR
Christian Yip, son of Mr. & Mrs. Philip Yip has been named Westford Academy’s Student of the Month for January. Mr. Nidzgorski and Mrs. Ditto nominated him in the area of Co-Curricular and they write:
Christian, along with fellow student Aneena Patel managed and ran the bazaar at WA in December. They both worked tirelessly every day to make the bazaar a success. Preparation started last summer where preliminary meetings took place, and they met with both advisors and mapped out a preliminary plan four months before the event took place.
Christian and Aneena spent close to two hours a day for over a month reviewing applications, communicating with applicants and organizing where each vendor would be set up. They arranged supplies, workforce and the correct paperwork that was needed. They would report back to student council their progress and set up subcommittee meetings as needed.
Their preparation before the event is truly why the event was such a success. On the day of the event all went very well, as they clearly explained to all members of the Student Council what their expectations were and held all accountable. Both Christian and Annena showed true leadership qualities the day of the event by staying true to their plan and supporting all students, advisors, and vendors involved.
These two young individuals show qualities rarely found in the outside workforce and truly deserve the honor of Students of the Month.”
