Westford Accountant Admits to Stealing $341K to Pay for Jeep, Vacations, Jewelry, iTunes Media

Ian Donovan was sentenced to 2 ½ years in jail.

A former Westford accountant pleaded guilty to embezzling about $341,000 from his company to pay for a new Jeep and vacations, among other items.

Ian Donovan, 39, of Seabrook, N.H. was sentenced to 2 ½ years in jail and ordered to repay all the money he stole from Puma’s facility in Westford, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced Thursday.

Prosecutors said between November 2012 and June 2013, Donovan created fake expense reports and had the money deposited in his personal bank account. He purchased a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee, vacations, jewelry, and ITunes media.

“A fraud scheme like this has financial repercussions for a business and ripple effects on its honest employees and customers,” Ryan said in a statement. “This plea and the judge’s sentence means the defendant will be responsible for repaying all the money that was taken.”

Donovan was also sentenced to 10 years probation.
