Westford Cross Country Falls Short in Opening Meet
Lincoln-Sudbury wins boys and girls races, 17-38 and 23-32.
Despite a strong effort by both the Westford Academy boys' and girls' cross country teams on what was a hot and humid Wednesday earlier this week, the Grey Ghosts were unable to outscore Lincoln-Sudbury in the first meet of the season for both teams.
The Warriors' girls squad bested Westford, 23-32 while Westford's boys denied Lincoln-Sudbury a perfect score with Patrick Turpin's fourth place finish, resulting a in a final tally of 17-38.
The girls' race featured a duel between Emily Ruggerio and Lincoln-Sudbury's Marika Crowe for nearly the entire race. Ruggerio prevailed at the finish by a few strides. Tia Caldwell took fourth place, dividing the Warriors' pack at the finish line.

The boys race race maintained an aggressive pace throughout despite the heat and humidity, with Eli Hoenig taking first place for the Warriors.
Next Wednesday, the Grey Ghosts will host Wayland and Newton South.
