Westford Cub Scouts Refurbish Flagg Road Trail

Westford Cub Scout Pack 100 Participates in a Community Service Project

Westford Cub Scout Pack 100's Den 2 Wolves have fulfilled one of their rank requirements that examines how they can have a positive impact and give back to their community. This requirement looks at how their community has changed over the years and at any issues the community faces. One issue they identified was declining greenspace in Westford. The scouts decided to adopt an underused trail on Flagg Road in Westford as their community service project to help preserve and promote the use of greenspace in Westford.

On April 9, they started on the first part of their community service project by refurbishing the hiking trail located off of Flagg Road. They cleared trash and brush, removed dead and dangerous trees, repainted blazes and even built a bridge over one of the more wet areas of the trail. They also mapped the trail using GIS mapping software.

Their future plans for the project are to create an accurate trail map and description that can be added to the Westford Trail Systems that is hosted on Westford Conservation Trust’s website.
