"We knew that they were going to be a good team coming in," said Raynham-Bridgewater head coach Matt Connelly. "(Westford) is a talented program, and one we model ourselves after. They played a really tough schedule, and it certainly prepared them for the tournament."
Westford's Jay Drapeau led all scorers with six goals, followed by four from Ian Speliotis and three from Alex Eaton, who also chipped in four assists.
Geoff Gordon led the Trojans with two goals.
Westford Academy head coach Marc Tholander was pleased with the victory, and believes from his years of experience that this squad has the talent to go all the way. However, he was adamant in his opinion that a greater effort would be needed if the Ghosts are going to defeat state powerhouses like Duxbury or local foe Acton-Boxborough.
"It was a hot, hazy day. We gotta keep our runs short and get everyone involved, but there were too many mental mistakes, that seems to have been our problem all year long," said Tholander. ", and the kids want to go back there and redeem themselves, and I absolutely do too, but we still have one more to go."
Before they can get a chance at Acton-Boxborough, Westford will have to defeat Boston College High at Westford Academy on Saturday at 6 p.m.
