Westford Man Wins Fire Suppression Award

Wes Baker was honored as one of the world's leading experts in fire suppression earlier this year for his work on ceiling sprinkler research.

Westford resident Wes Baker Jr. received notoriety recently in winning honors that put him as one of the world’s foremost experts in the subject of fire suppression systems.

An  Assistant Vice President and Senior Engineering Technical Specialist for the Rhode Island-based FM Global, earlier this year Baker was given the William M. Carey Award for his paper on fire suppression at the annual Suppression, Detection and Signaling Research and Applications conference in Orlando, Florida.

Baker’s work focused on enhancing the design of ceiling sprinklers in a way that makes them more efficient while also reducing their cost.

“Although these new approaches are based on research and testing spanning the last five years, the award helps to validate these changes,” Baker said. “It’s a great honor to win this award, the fire suppression community is filled with experts who make significant contributions. To be recognized in this way by them is truly rewarding.”

Baker currently has children attending the and and has lived in town for 20 years prior to moving here from Chelmsford.
