Westford Officials Considering Community Garden

A public forum on the plan will be held Mon., Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Fire Station No. 3 on Town Farm Road.

Westford officials are reviewing a proposal to create a community agriculture center at the Day property.

The land is located at the intersection of Graniteville and Cold Spring Roads. The center could be built as soon as next year.

The town’s Agriculture Commission, which devised the plan, said the center would consist of:

  • Community gardens
  • Community farming (small-scale farming including vegetables, fruit, and small livestock)
  • Beekeeping
  • Pick-your-own operations (fruit, pumpkins, flowers)
  • Incubator farms (to help new farmers launch a business)
  • Retail outlet for small-scale CSA producers
  • An agricultural literacy resource for Westford schoolchildren and adults

The plan is subject to approval from the Conservation Commission.
