Westford Pond Closures For Herbicide Treatment

Graniteville Pond and Old Mill Pond in Westford will be closed for herbicide treatment.

WESTFORD, MA — Graniteville Pond and Old Mill Pond in Westford will be closed this week for herbicide treatments, according to town officials. The herbicides will target invasive plants in the ponds, officials said. The treatments will be conducted Thursday, August 3.

"The ponds will be closed to all uses on the day of treatment, including swimming, boating and fishing," officials said in a statement Wednesday. "Additionally, water from both ponds should not be used for livestock watering until August 4th, for drinking/domestic purposes until August 6th and for irrigation until August 8th."

The treatments will be conducted by Shrewsbury-based SOLitude Lake Management. Signs will be erected around the ponds notifying the public of the closures.
