Westford resident is Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps Embracing the Legacy event chair

WESTFORD, Mass. — Westford resident, James Geraghty, a member of the board of directors at Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps, will serve as an event chair for Embracing the Legacy, the agency’s premier annual gala that raises funds to support its programs. The agency, which is celebrating 46 years of service, is a national leader in developing and implementing model, successful child welfare and juvenile justice programs.

Geraghty has been a steadfast supporter of the agency and was selected to serve as an event chair based on his strong commitment to improving the lives of children across the Commonwealth.

Geraghty also serves as a board member and chair of the advisory committee for the United Teen Equality Center. He is the founder of the Massachusetts Children’s Hockey Foundation and has held a seat on the VIP Committee for the Morgan Stanley Foundation. In addition, he has been an active supporter of the American Ireland Fund.

Through his work at Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management, Geraghty works with high net worth individuals providing highly customized financial advice and investment solutions. He is a member of the Morgan Stanley Chairman Club and has been recognized as one of America’s Top Advisors by Barron’s (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013). Additionally, Geraghty was recognized as one of the Top Ten Advisors in Massachusetts by the Boston Business Journal (2008). Geraghty recently received a prestigious award from Get Konnected, as one of 12 Leaders who are committed to Boston’s Diversity for his tireless work in mentoring at-risk youth. Geraghty is the recipient of the Gordon B. Seavey Distinguished Citizen Award for his years of service to Westford Public Schools.

Set for June 5, the agency’s annual Embracing the Legacy gala celebrates the legacy of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy and the work of the organization founded to carry out his principles of social justice for the poor and disadvantaged. Geraghty is joined by two other event chairs and board members, John Boyle, of Wayland, Mass. and Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy III.

During the event, Congressman Kennedy will reflect on his late grandfather’s legacy and the lasting contributions he made toward protecting society’s most vulnerable children and families. The event will include a cocktail reception, seated dinner and program, including the presentation of the Embracing the Legacy Award to the following honorees:

Theodore A. Oatis (posthumous award), co-founder of The Chiofaro Company; UTEC (United Teen Equality Center), a non-profit working with proven-risk youth in Lowell and Lawrence; Roy Wade Jr., M.D. Ph.D., instructor of pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and fellow at Stoneleigh Foundation; and Tim Wakefield, former Boston Red Sox pitcher and 2004 and 2007 World Series Champion, honorary chairman Red Sox Foundation and NESN studio analyst.

Susan Wornick, former anchor of WCVB-TV’s midday newscast who has been a longtime supporter, volunteer and member of RFK Children’s Action Corps’ advisory council, will emcee the 400-person event.

The event will be held at the JFK Presidential Library and Museum, Columbia Point, Boston. Through the event, RFK Children’s Action Corps raises money to support at-risk children, families, and communities throughout Massachusetts, giving them a second chance for a better life.

Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps operates a number of programs and services for at-risk children and families, including community based initiatives, residential treatment and juvenile justice programs, and partners with national organizations and state agencies to use proven methods and develop new ways to advance practices in the care of those most vulnerable, providing the tools and skills they need to heal, grow, and thrive.
