Westford's Cynosure Reports Strong Fourth Quarter

Reports from the Sacramento Bee indicate that Westford-based Cynosure had a positive showing following the announcement of fourth quarter financial results.

The cosmetics technology company said that revenues increased 53 percent to $34.1 million during the fourth quarter of 2011, an $11.8 million increase from 2010’s fourth quarter report, with income from operations and net income also improved during the previous year.

Chief Executive Officer Michael Davin believes that the rise came mainly from growth in North American markets as well as strategic acquisitions of companies and procedures over the past year such as HOYA ConBio and the PinPointe FootLaser, among others.

“The improvement of our gross profit margin in the fourth quarter is particularly notable given the addition of ConBio’s revenue,” said Davin. “Historically, a significant share of ConBio’s revenue has come from lower-margin international distribution. As a result, we anticipated that the acquisition would reduce our overall margin in the fourth quarter. Instead, our gross profit margin increased on a higher mix of direct North American ConBio sales, as well as the overall improvement in the U.S business climate.”

The news comes on the heels of the U.S Food and Drug Administration’s approval for the company’s Cellulaze Workstation, a minimally invasive laser-based product for women seeking to fight cellulite.
