Westford Students Made Their Mark At Various Competitions In Late April and May

Over the past month, Westford students have done well at various competitions ranging from computer programming and marketing to badminton and science poetry.

School is quickly coming to an end, and here are a few pieces of interest from Westford Academy students over the past month.

13th Place Finish in the American Computer Science League Competition

Some of Westford Academy’s young computer experts helped the Grey Ghosts earn 84 points at this year’s American Computer Science League competition, a total good enough to tie with Phillips Exeter for 13th place.

The team, which consisted of Vivek Gaddam, Lukas Hunker, Ted Frohlich, Pat Long, Christian Strobel, Jason Tu and Max Polevy, competed in trying to solve a series of difficult programming problems above and beyond what they would be taught in regular high school classes.

Twenty-two Westford Academy students recently represented the school at the 65th annual DECA International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida.

In particular, the students went to compete with students throughout North America in themed business related contests, with the team of Alexis Jacobson and Richa Kaul finishing first and second respectively in the “Buying and Merchandising” competition.

Day Elementary Students Excel

Two young Westford students found glory earlier this month in two very different areas.

Timothy Shee returned home after earning a second place finish in the Under-11 boys’ single division of the Maryland Junior Open badminton tournament while Meghana Ginnamreddy finished third in the Massachusetts Science Poetry contest with her entry “Butterflies in the Sky.”
