Broadway Closed as Derailment Cleaned Up

The fire department explained how the events of last night went down.

A crane has arrived at the scene of last night's train derailment and is beginning to put the cars back on the track, the Westford Police said shortly after noon Wednesday.

Broadway Street between River and First will be closed.

The Westford Fire Department has shined some light on what happened in Tuesday night's train derailment.

The department said at approximately 8:40 p.m., it received a report of a derailment at Broadway and River Sts.

There was a Tier 1 Hazardous Material Response - the lowest type of response - as a tanker car containing ferrous chloride solution was involved in the derailment. Haz-Mat said there was no risk of release and no health risks. A reverse 911 call was made to area residents to let them know.

Pan-Am is working today to remove the derailed cars while the fire department will remain on scene to provide support.
