White Team 6 vs. Reading 5
Westford's White team won a close fought battle against Reading this past Sunday. Reading started off quickly by scoring less than a minute into the game, but Westford quickly answered back, when Aidan Timlin received a pass from Daniel Marshall and powered it pass the goalie. Attacker's Michael Paulauskas and Willem Lorrette kept Reading's defense busy while Kevin Egan fed a nice pass to Danny McInerny, who circled the opposing net and fought his way out front for powerful and accurate score. The third goal was scored by Robbie Raboin and was set up by the great passing of Griffin Schwab and Tommy Welham down the left side of the field. Westford's defensive pair of Declan Morse and Brian Bonczek help set up the fourth goal by clearing the ball quickly upfield to Kevin Egan, who immediately passed to an open "not to be denied" Johnathan Burke . Westford's goalie Dan Thew had an outstanding game in net and also helped set up the fifth goal. He tossed the ball downfield to Tommy Welham, who used his speed to avoid defender's and delivered a center field pass to Kevin Egan, who fired it into the top corner of the net. With the scored tied and time running out in the final quarter, the tenacious efforts of Ryan Walsh broke up a defensive clearing, Dominic Marshall fought for the loose ball, maintained body position and fed Griffin Schwab who found Danny McInerny cutting down the middle of the field, poised to rocket the game winning shot past the Reading Goalie.
Westford's next game is against Acton-Boxboro, June 3rd at Stoney Brook.

Westford Maroon 15 vs. Tyngsboro 4
The U11 Maroon team fought hard during the opening faceoff and won first possession of the ball. John Alfano quickly scouped the ball and sped down field. His swift actions and direct pass led to a first goal scored by Nolan Ratte (his first of five goals.) Tyngsboro answered back by scoring a goal as the first quarter came to an end. Westford came together as a team with strong passing as Alfano assisted Dylan Breen to score, Ryan Crann assisted Pressly Mead to score, and Lucas Laroche made an accurate pass to Dylan Breen to score. The score was 5-1 at halftime.
Westford was pumped up as they began the second half. Players complained about taking breaks and everyone was eager to be on the field as Westford took control of the game. The scoring attack intensified with goals scored by Nolan Ratte, Pressly Mead (3,) John Alfano, Ryan Reid (2,) Nick Green and Lucas Laroche. Defensive strength played by Harry Laushine, Carson DeMont, Carlos Dion and Jack Healy helped Tommy Kennedy protect the goal and held Tyngsboro to only 4 goals scored. Once again, teamwork served these boys well as they passed the ball, fought for loose balls, and dominated their opponent.
Westford Boys U11 Lacrosse: U-11 Grey beat Lexington 13-8
Westford Grey marched as a team in the April Blossom Parade on Saturday and continued that theme on Sunday as they marched over Lexington on Sunday. The team showed some of their best team defense and offense of the season. The defense was anchored in goal by outstanding goaltending of Nathan Arsenault and Matt Sepe. Matt Wasylyshyn, Matt Wilson and Austin Smith were like a wall on defense and were responsible for starting many of the plays that resulted in goales. The team controlled the game from the first face off, and demonstrated outstanding passing and patience in the offensive end. Steve Donovan struck first with the first of his two goals on the day. The second goal was the best example all year of how passing and patience always leads to goals. David Robertson fired his shot into the top corner of the net, after he received a pass from Jake Gross, Peter Beck and Jack Wilson. Jake Gross, playing center middie, and Alec Morgan at Attack were unselfish all day which resulted in many of their teammates being able to score. Peter Beck was next to find the back of the net for the first of his two goals and two assists on the day. The great passing continued which resulted in Alex Oakleaf scoring the first of his two goals of the afternoon. Brady Bomel had a goal and two assists on the day. Jack Barisano owned the midfield all day, won almost all of his face-offs, frustrated the Lexington attack, and scored three goals on the day. The next strike came from Cole Barisano who used his quick stick to find the net, after receiving a sharp pass from Alec Oakleaf. Nathan Arsenault, in addition to his goalie duties, was the next to stuff a nice goal in the net. This was the best team effort all year by ever member of the team.

U15 Boys
Westford Select Grey 11 Acton-Boxboro 5
The Westford Grey Select team kept their undefeated season intact with a 11-5 victory over Acton-Boxboro to run their record to 8-0. Coming out of the gate fast, Westford opened up a 5 goal lead in the first quarter with good ball possession, patience on offense and disciplined play. Strong midfield performances from Alex Flanagan (3 goals, 1 assist), Kevin Enos (1 goal, 3 assists) and Eric McLaughlin (2 goals) allowed Westford to control face-offs and the center of the field. Despite going up against a strong defensive unit of AB, attackmen Richard Paglia (2 goals, 3 assists) and Justin Linden (3 goals, 1 assist) were able to work the “dodge and dump” very effectively from the left post to pace the offense. Penalties, missed scoring opportunities and undisciplined play got the better of Westford in the remaining 3 quarters, but they were still able to keep AB at bay outscoring them 6-5 in the final 3 frames. Jack Cusworth put in another very strong showing in net and the excellent defensive core for Westford (Derek Beatty, Ryan Delaney, Reilly Enos, Kyle Martin and Brandon McNabb) played their usual stellar defense. Up next for Westford in their final game of the regular season will be Wayland.
Westford Team #1 6 vs Lexington 9
The U-15 Black team suffered a disappointing loss in a game that initially appeared would be an easy win for Westford. This loss drops Westford’s record to 4-4 on the season. Starting out strong with good ball possession, patience on offense and disciplined play, Westford opened up a 5-1 lead at halftime on goals by Jason Hughes, Matt Lavallee, Nick Regan, Richard Paglia and Daniel Koerner. Lexington moved some players around in the 2nd half which worked well for them as they methodically worked their way back into the game outscoring Westford 4-0 in the 3rd quarter and 4-1 in the final frame. Westford’s man-on-man defense was poor in the 2nd half, and the offense did not help matters with missed scoring opportunities, forced passes and a general lack of effort. The only tally Westford was able to muster in the entire 2nd half was a nice goal from Zach Goldberg, assisted by Matt Lavallee, but it came late in the 4th quarter and by then it was too little too late. Up next for Westford in their final game of the season will be Billerica on June 3rd.
U13 Girls
Westford Red vs Chelmsford
The Westford Red U13 girls lacrosse team played Chelmsford on Sunday in their sixth game of the season. The offense started very fast winning all the first half draws and making quick passes and then driving to the goal. Leading the offensive charge were Alyna Baharozian who had an outstanding game with 5 goals and Caley McKenney with 2 goals. Also contributing goals with excellent shots were Alison Breen, Jessica O’Neil and Erika Waterhouse. Westford held a sizable advantage in ground balls winning 34 to Chelmsford’s 15. Playing great on offense and defense by aggressively pursuing and winning many ground balls were Cara Hackley, Abby Wood, Makena Waterhouse, Caroline Chaffiotte, and Kayla Schladenhauffen. One of the keys to the game was Westford’s excellent team defense. Chelmsford had many opportunities to score but Westford’s defense came up with big stops time and again causing turnovers or forcing the offensive player away from the goal. Defensive standouts were Katelyn Wing, Sofia Marchetti, Cassie Clark, Kate Walker and Isabel Heitkamp. Marchetti and Heitkamp were also excellent in goal with both making several saves. Westford Red will play Andover White in their next game.
