BROOKLINE, MA — Brookline State Representative Tommy Vitolo has been inducted into the North Carolina State University Computer Science Hall of Fame, a reflection of his career in academic, energy policy, and public service.

Vitolo graduated from NC State University in 1998, 1999, and 2000 with Bachelor of Science degrees in Economics, Computer Science, and Applied Mathematics. He was in the school’s first cohort of Park Scholars, was the first Park Scholar to graduate, and contributed to the program in many ways, including cofounding Service Raleigh, a campus tradition that enlists 2,000 volunteers annually to complete about 75 projects across the city in a single day.

"I am grateful to have had the privilege of attending NC State as a Park Scholar and to be recognized by my alma mater for my career in academia, energy policy, and public service," said Vitolo in a statement.

"My education, and time at NC State, helped me understand the world and the importance of serving the community,” he continued.

After his time at NC State, Vitolo went on to earn a Master's Degree in Financial and Industrial Mathematics at Dublin City University as a Mitchell Scholar and a PhD in Systems Engineering at Boston University. He has applied his education in his work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Lincoln Laboratory and Synapse Energy Economics, as well as in his current role as Brookline's State Representative.
