According the Westford Public Schools superintendent Bill Olson, the key reason is the drop in students walking home from school, particularly since Crisafulli was founded about a decade ago.
In an interview with Westford Patch, Olson said that now students only walk home from school when they live directly across the street.

Olson also noted parents that he'd put money used for buses toward new sidewalks to help make it easier for kids to walk home, but he would put that money right back into bus transportation if child safety ever became an issue.
Currently, the two signs telling motorists to go 20 miles per hour near the corner of Hartford Road and Robinson Road and on Robinson Road between the two schools are not likely to be joined anytime soon by another sign on Concord Road near the Robinson School due in large part to the decreased numbers of students walking to and from school each day.
However, if the School Department's financial situation improved, Olson said that he would not be opposed to a new sign on Concord Road.
