The season's underway for Westford's young basketball stars. Here are some recaps provided by the Westford Youth Basketball League for games from Dec. 12 to 14.

Hot Shots  - 28

In the season opener for the league the Hot Shots battled the Lucky Leprechauns.  It was a rough start for the Hot Shots as they started with just 5 players.  Kelly Bray played crazy defense for the hot Shots along with Meghan Carlyle.  Sarah Brunelle and Haley Flaherty-Dawson were the high scorers for the Hot Shots with great passes by Danielle Victory and Jackie Joncas and great ball control by Alesia Raczelowski.  The Leprechauns were led by Becky O’Neil and Kelly Geraghty on offense and Elizabeth Dick and Molly Aulson on defense.  Overall a great game by both teams and it looks to be a fun and exciting season for the entire league. 

 

Yellow Submarines  - 42

Butter  - 40

 

It was a playoff-like intense game for this early in the season and the Yellow Submarines pulled out a win in overtime.  The Submarines were led offensively by Jillian and Taryn Chrysikos with terrific rebounding by Amy Cornelius and Brianna Mills. Rachel Templeton, Leah and Lauren Bushey led the defense and Rike had a great first game of her career.  Julie Bransfield, Stacy Shackleton and Abby Hyslip provided a strong offense for the Butter with Nicole Souza leading the defense.  Great start to the season.

 

Golden Snitches - 27

Cool Blue  - 23

 

The Golden Snitches played as if they were riding the Nimbus 3000.  With excellent plays from Tianna Habosian, Becca Robey and the rest of the team they beat the Cool Blue 27-23.  Cool Blue showcased Kristina Reny and many others.

 

Yellow Submarines  - 36

Black Mambas  - 27

 

The Yellow Submarines were able to pull away in the last two minutes from the Black Mambas for a 36-27 win.  The Submarines were led on offense by Taryn Chrysikos and on defense by Leah Bushey and Rike Pemp.  Amanda Brooks, Samantha Kelly and Liz Muller led the Mambas in scoring.

 

Lucky Leprechauns  - 35

Ocean Spray  - 28                               

 

The Lucky Leprechauns were led by Molly Aulson and Kelly Geraghty on offense.  Nicole Pugatch and Liz Dick were solid on defense.  The Ocean Spray was led by Jess Wilkinson.

 

Da Bullz - 25

Black Mamba  - 23

 

Tough game between the two teams. The Black Mambas were hustling until the end with only 4 players but Da Bullz pulled it out and got the lead with only a few minutes left.  Becca Goodman and Rachel Mahan came up big on the boards for Da Bullz with Kara Aiken, Kaitlin Canha and Lauren Cullen playing outstanding defense.  For Black Mamba, Amanda Brooks and Elizabeth Muller led in scoring and Ashley Geary led the defense.  Overall a great game by both teams.

 

Hot Shots  -  34

Periwinkle Platypi   - 16

 

The Hot Shots battled the Periwinkle Platypi to a 34-16 victory.  The game started off with 5 players on each team until Danielle Victory strolled in fashionably late yet again for the Hot Shots.  Sarah Brunelle and Alesia Raczelowski scored the majority of points for him Hot Shots with great passes from Haley Flaherty-Dawson and Kelly Bray.  Jackie Joncas played great defense.  For the Platypi Alaina Baker and Emily Dias led the offense and Dipanshi Shah and Sarah Zeoli played unstoppable defense.  Taylor Freud had an amazing all around game.  Great game by both teams. 

 

Crocodile Hunters  - 27

Hot Green Chili Peppers  - 19

 

Crocodile Hunters were on the prowl winning 27-19.  Nicolle Callahan and Megan Casey led the Crocs in points, Nicole with 11 and Megan with 6.  The Hot Green Chili Peppers were led by Michelle Thompson with 6 points.  Both teams played great games.
