Zoning Board of Appeals to Rule on McDonald’s Drive-Through

McDonald’s is seeking variances from Westford’s Zoning Board of Appeals to allow the “fast food industry giant” to open the first drive-through restaurant in Westford.

If granted, such variances could set a precedent, extending an open invitation to other fast food chains to do the same. With close proximity to Rte. 495 and plans to extend its hours of operation, McDonald’s seeks to attract more traffic running north and south along the interstate highway. This could bring increased congestion, crowding, noise, pollution, and litter to a town that prides itself on its quiet, New England character.
