Alert Resident Leads To South Weymouth Break-In Arrest

WEYMOUTH, MA — A resident who noticed that something wasn't right early Thursday morning has lead to the arrest of a Brockton man.

Joao G. Gomes, 27, faces several counts of breaking and entering, receiving stolen property, vandalism to a fence, and resisting arrest, according to the Weymouth Police Department.

At about 3:45 a.m., a resident reported a suspicious person who was possibly breaking into vehicles. Officers responded to the Pine Street area and found Gomes, who was allegedly in possession were two bags full of property believed to be taken from dozens of motor vehicle break-ins around South Weymouth. The property included cash, jewelry, wallets, electronics, dozens of pairs of sunglasses and other personal property, police said.

Gomes was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Quincy District Court.
