Iinvestigators say that Loubier intentionally went over the side of a boat to free the boat from a line in which it had become entangled. He surfaced after his initial dive and reported being unsuccessful in freeing the boat from the line. Witnesses say he went down again to continue his effort and didn't come back.

Foul play was not associated with his death.
