Boston Marathon Hero Leads Notre Dame Academy Team to State Championship

Notre Dame Academy coach leads team to Division 2 state championship.

Rick Kates coached his Notre Dame Academy girls' track and field team to a MIAA EMASS Division 2 championship over the Memorial Day weekend.

The championship was his second of the school year, and came less than two months after he helped saved the lives of many victims of the Marathon explosions in April.

Kates’ Notre Dame Academy girls track and field team dominated their opponents on their home track, scoring a 70, defeating the second place Mansfield team by 20 points and the third place Natick team by 20.5 points.
