Brockton Man Charged with Robbing Bank in Weymouth

WEYMOUTH, MA - A Brockton man robbed a local bank Monday afternoon, police said.

Richard D. Bragg, 45, was arrested and charged with unarmed robbery, receiving stolen property over $250, and operating after license suspension, according to the Weymouth Police Department. Bragg was held overnight on $25,000 cash bail

At about 12:36 p.m. Monday, police received a report of a bank robbery at South Shore Bank on Commercial Street. Bank employees reported that a white male fled with an undisclosed amount of cash in a blue Ford van. One of the witnesses was able to provide a partial plate number for the van. No weapon was shown.

After viewing the surveillance footage and conducting an investigation, detectives determined a possible suspect to be one from Brockton. A detective from the narcotics unit also recognized Bragg from the surveillance footage.

A short time later the suspect vehicle, a blue Ford van, was located parked at an address on Randall Avenue in Weymouth. At approximately 4:30 p.m., detectives followed Bragg in the van as he left Randall Avenue. He was pulled over on Middle Street and subsequently arrested. The currency from the bank robbery was recovered from inside the van.
Bragg is due to be arraigned in Quincy District Court Tuesday.
