Celebrating 30 Years, South Shore Skin Center Expands With New Norwell Location

Celebrating 30 years of exceptional dermatology care, South Shore Skin Center has opened an all-new, state-of-the-art, 12,000 square foot office at 75 Washington Street on Route 53 in Norwell. The new location complements the company’s longtime headquarters at One Scobee Circle in Plymouth.

South Shore Skin Center occupies approximately one third of the 37,000 square foot company-owned structure in Norwell. Situated on almost 6 acres of land, the site was previously the home of South Shore Medical Center. The new building has been renamed Norwell Medical Center.

South Shore Skin Center has made a substantial financial investment in Norwell resulting in the creation of many new jobs. With more than 30 staff members -- including two new dermatologists -- on site, the Norwell office will incorporate the staff and patients from its Cohasset office. There is also an opportunity for other medical practices and health care related businesses to open new offices in the building.

From skin cancer detection and treatment, to anti-aging solutions and treatments for numerous conditions affecting the skin, hair and nails, South Shore Skin Center has earned a respected reputation as an award winning, full-service dermatology practice offering men, women and children the latest advancements in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology services.

As in Plymouth, the new Norwell location features the Skin Center’s trademark Medical Spa as well as its Mohs Micrographic Surgery Unit. The Mohs Unit provides a highly specialized surgical treatment for specific forms of skin cancer. South Shore Skin Center is one of the only practices in the region to offer Mohs Micrographic Surgery.

Partners Dr. Richard F. Eisen, Dr. Ramzi W. Saad and Dr. Navid Bouzari (left to right, above) are board certified dermatologists who lead an expert team of dedicated physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, surgical nurses, aesthetic nurse specialists and medical estheticians -- all specialists in dermatology -- who share a common commitment to providing the highest level of personal, individualized care.

Dr. Eisen notes, “The Massachusetts Medical Society has reported a critical shortage of specialists on the South Shore, dermatology included. Our practice is committed to improving access to quality care. With our expansion in Norwell, we are delighted to welcome new staff members to our team. They include two exceptionally well educated and highly skilled board certified dermatologists -- Dr. Tivon Sidorsky, and Dr. Ricardo Pollitt.”

SELECTING NORWELL

As part of the partners’ ongoing mission to better serve patients throughout the area, Drs. Eisen, Saad and Bouzari launched an extensive search on the South Shore for new medical space that would allow them to extend their reach while perpetuating the high standards already established in their Plymouth practice.

After researching several possible locations, they focused their attention on Norwell, purchasing the 37,000 square foot medical building at 75 Washington Street in August of 2013. They have spent the past 12 months completely renovating and redesigning the interior of the structure. Helicon Design provided architectural design services for the project. Barletta Associates, Inc. served as general contractors.

Dr. Saad commented, “We were very excited when we toured the Norwell building a year ago. Town officials were very much in favor of the building remaining a medical facility. In turn, we all felt the structure offered the perfect setting for us to expand our practice. Norwell is one of the fastest growing business communities on the South Shore. Additionally, the Route 53 location is easily accessible both locally and from Route 3. We’re delighted with our choice and know our patients will be as well.”

THE MOHS SURGICAL UNIT

Highlighted among South Shore Skin Center’s progressive dermatology services is its pioneering practice in Mohs Micrographic Surgery – an advanced and highly effective surgical technique that requires a skilled dermatologist with specialized training. Dr. Eisen and Dr. Bouzari perform Mohs surgery in both Plymouth and Norwell.

During the Mohs procedure, the surgeon removes cancerous skin tissue one thin layer at a time, preserving the maximum amount of normal tissue possible. As each small layer is removed, the tissue is immediately analyzed in the Center’s on-site lab. The detailed procedure is then repeated in stages, as necessary, until all cancer cells have been identified and removed. The advantage is that the entire process is accomplished in one outpatient procedure.

Until recently, the Skin Center’s Mohs Surgical Unit in Plymouth has been one of the only facilities of its kind in the region. By adding the second Unit in Norwell, Dr. Bouzari said the Skin Center will now be able to offer a convenient surgical location to more patients than ever before.

“Not all dermatologists are trained to perform Mohs Surgery,” he said. “Having a Mohs Unit at our Norwell office allows us to increase the number of surgical referrals we’re able to accept from our colleagues throughout Greater Boston, the South Shore, Cape Cod and The Islands. Norwell really provides a perfect complement to our existing Plymouth practice.”

THE MEDICAL SPA

South Shore Skin Center previously expanded its practice in Plymouth in 2009 to launch an onsite spa component offering a comprehensive menu of medically based, non-surgical cosmetic and anti-aging dermatology services designed to help keep the skin healthy and the complexion fresh.

The spa, originally called The Spa Clinic, has been renamed The Medical Spa. Dr. Eisen said, “From the outset, our Spa was meant to enhance the full range of clinical dermatology treatments we provide. Our mission has always been to enrich the patient experience with additional skin care treatments ranging from medical grade facials, microdermabrasion and anti-aging laser treatments to a broad range of soft tissue dermal fillers and injectables including Botox, Juvederm and others -- all performed by highly trained cosmetic nurses, estheticians and physicians under the supervision of the Center’s staff dermatologists.”

He continued, “In celebrating both our 30th anniversary and our new location in Norwell, we thought this was the ideal time to redefine the spa by better aligning its name with the specific care and services our patients have come to expect and rely upon.”

Dr. Eisen also noted that not all spas are equal in the level and quality of services offered. One major difference is that The Medical Spa at South Shore Skin Center has board-certified dermatologists on staff and onsite to deliver and supervise a superior level of skin care utilizing the most advanced technology and medical grade products available.

Completing the patient experience, The Medical Spa offers an extensive collection of dermatologist tested and approved skin care products ranging from sunscreen and moisturizers to exfoliants, cleansers, mineral makeup and medical grade products that help to reverse and prevent further damage to the skin.

30 YEARS OF SERVICE

Dr. Richard Eisen opened a dermatology practice in 1984 in a small medical office in Plymouth. As the practice grew, South Shore Skin Center relocated to an office in the Plymouth Industrial Park in 1988. Dr. Ramzi Saad joined the practice in 1995. Over time, the partners added a satellite office -- first in Hingham in 1995, and then Cohasset in 2004 -- to better serve patients around the South Shore. The original Plymouth office moved to its present Scobee Circle location in 2009. Dr. Navid Bouzari joined the practice in 2012.
