Compressor Station Permit Appeal Could Be Heard In Summer

The appeal hearing for the wetlands permit issued to the proposed Weymouth compressor station could take place this summer.

WEYMOUTH, MA — The appeal hearing for the wetlands permit issued to the proposed Weymouth compressor station could take place this summer, according to a new report.

A hearing officer with the state Department of Environmental Protection said a hold on the process will be lifted when a decision in a related federal case is released, according to the Patriot Ledger. Town Solicitor Joseph Callanan said the hearing will likely take place in the summer, with a decision to follow in the fall.

Algonquin Gas Transmission, a subsidiary of Spectra Energy, is hoping to build a compressor station on the Fore River in Weymouth as part of their Atlantic Bridge pipeline project. The project has been in and out of courts due to legal challenges and lawsuits.
