Critical Care Units Recognized at S. Shore Hospital

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses recently recognized the South Shore Hospital’s Critical Car Units with a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence.

The award includes the South Shore Hospital’s Mixed Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Cardiac Care Unit.

The Beacon Award for Excellence is a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments and recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards, according to the South Shore Hospital.

 Units that achieve this three-year, three-level award with a gold, silver or bronze designation meet national criteria consistent with Magnet Recognition, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the National Quality Healthcare Award.

“The Beacon Award is a welcome, external validation of what we see, and what patients and families experience every day in our Critical Care Units here at South Shore Hospital. Our nurses practice according to the latest evidence-based science, wrap it in compassion and work within an expert team to care for our most critical patients. I am immensely proud of their achievement in earning this prestigious honor,” said South Shore Hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer Timothy Quigley.
