Driver Charged with Striking State Police Cruiser on I-93

Police say Lily Reid of Quincy was drunk when she allegedly struck the vehicle while driving in Boston.

QUINCY, MA — A Quincy woman was drunk when she crashed into a state police cruiser while driving on Interstate 93 South in Boston, police said.

Lily Reid, 21, was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and failure to move over for an emergency vehicle, according to the Massachusetts State Police.

At 1:33 a.m. early Tuesday morning, a state trooper at the scene of a two-car crash near the Mass. Ave exit of Interstate 93 South in Boston was struck by another vehicle while in his cruiser. Police say the other vehicle, a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, was traveling south and struck the rear of the stationary state police cruiser, a fully marked Ford Explorer.

The trooper suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was conscious and alert when transported to Tufts Medical Center. He was released this morning.

Reid is free on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in Boston Municipal Court, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.
