Driver in Weymouth Drugged Driving Crash Said Airbag Was Jacket, Unaware of Crash: Police
Daniel Schmid, 20, was arrested Saturday and charged with OUI drugs, operating to endanger, and leaving the scene of property damage.

WEYMOUTH, MA — A Hull man said nothing happened when police found him in the driver's seat of a vehicle allegedly involved in a drug driving crash, police said.
Daniel Schmid, 20, was arrested Saturday and charged with operating under the influence of drugs, operating to endanger, and leaving the scene of property, according to court documents. He was arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court.
At about 5:15 p.m., police responded to a report of a crash at Jenny's Food Mart on Middle Street and a driver sleeping behind the wheel. When police arrived, they found a vehicle parked across multiple parking paces, the driver's door open, the steering wheel airbag and ejected. A police report written by Weymouth Officer Michael Lang described Schmid as erratic and unbalanced on his feet.

When asked about the crash, Schmid allegedly told police that the airbag was his jacket and he was unaware of any crash. A search of the vehicle allegedly turned up an uncapped needle that Schmid denied was his, telling police he only used marijuana that day.
Schmid refused a medical transport to South Shore Hospital, allegedly telling police, "Take me to jail."
