Fun, Games, and More Highlight WEYFEST 2016

WEYFEST will happen on June 18 at SouthField.

WEYMOUTH, MA - Field day events, performing arts, live music, and more is coming back to Weymouth as part of this year's WEYFEST at SouthField.

The website is now up for the June 18 event along with a taste of things to come.

On its website, WEYFEST is described as a "free, “family reunion” type day of memory making activities with a live music festival component that gives back to the community. Essentially an old fashioned block party, WEYFEST’s focus is to fortify our town’s community spirit while reconnecting with our neighbors to all that's positive and extraordinary about Weymouth.:

The event starts with a torch bearer/lighting ceremony that begins at the original landing spot of the first settlers at Wessagusett in 1622. Runners will advance the torch through the town before it arrives at SouthField at 11 a.m. Weymouth native and Olympian Tim Sweeney will run the final leg of the relay and hand off the torch to Mayor Robert Hedlund to light the cauldron and start the festival.

Other events include a state police flyover, color run, touch-a-truck, Weymouth police vs. fire whiffle ball, three-point shootout, cornhole tournament, and a mechanical bull.

Live music will play from 1-8 p.m.
