Gas Leak Reported at Spectra Gas Metering Station
A fire official said a strong odor of gas could be smelled from a mile away.

WEYMOUTH, MA — A malfunctioning release valve at a Spectra Energy gas metering station on the Fore River led to residents smelling a strong odor of gas, a fire official said.
At 7:30 p.m., the Weymouth Fire Department responded to reports of a gas smell and found the malfunctioning release valve at the scene. The leaked stopped when the valve was shut down, according to the Boston Globe.
A Spectra Energy spokesman said the leak was caused by a one inch valve freezing.
