Group Ready To Launch Legal Challenge Over Compressor Station

The North Weymouth Civic Association is preparing a legal battle over a proposed compressor station.

WEYMOUTH, MA — The North Weymouth Civic Association is preparing to launch a legal battle over a proposed compressor station that was recently approved by federal regulators.

The group recently held a meat raffle that raised $2,000 to help cover legal expenses. Alice Arena, a member of the Fore River Residents Against the Compressor Station, told the Patriot Ledger that it will cost $5,000 in legal fees to file a request for a rehearing and the overall cost could be over $10,000.

Representing the group will be Washington D.C. attorney Carolyn Elefant. She will be going against her former employer in the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the group that recently approved a conditional certificate for Spectra Energy's 7,700-horsepower compressor station on the Fore River.
