Local Chamber of Commerces Stay Mum on Proposed Weymouth Compressor Station

Three local Chamber of Commerces have issued no comment on the issue.

WEYMOUTH, MA — Three local groups that represent businesses in the towns that would be directly affected by a proposed compressor station in North Weymouth are staying quiet about the project.

South Shore Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Peter Forman told The Patriot Ledgerthat his organization has not taken a position on the issue. The Weymouth Chamber of Commerce and Quincy Chamber of Commerce have also declined to take a stand on the Spectra Energy proposal.

Spectra is hoping to obtain state and federal regulation to build a 7,700-horsepower compressor station near the Weymouth end of the Fore River Bridge. The station is part of a plan to expand natural gas pipelines from New Jersey to Canada.
