Lowell Man Faces Fentanyl Charges in Weymouth

WEYMOUTH, MA — A Lowelll man faces charges for allegedly selling fentanyl in Weymouth.
Steven Hernandez, 25, was arrested late Thursday morning and charged with trafficking fentanyl, distribution of fentanyl, drug violation near a school/park, and conspiracy to violate the drug laws, according to the Weymouth Police Department.
Around 11:00 a.m. Thursday, detectives observed Hernandez park his vehicle in Columbian Square where he met another man. Both men allegedly got into the other man's vehicle and police say they observed what appeared to be a drug transaction. After Hernandez exited the vehicle and walked back towards his vehicle, detectives approached both men and began questioning them. The man that met with Hernandez allegedly turned over a bag of what he believed to be heroin that he had just purchased from Hernandez. It was later determined to be fentanyl, police said.

Detectives recovered about $2,500 worth of fentanyl from Hernandez . Several hundred dollars in cash was also recovered from him, including the money from the alleged buyer.
Hernandez is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Quincy District Court.
