Mayor Kay Pulls Request for $18.5 Million Debt Exclusion
The withdrawal came hours before a planned presentation.

Mayor Susan Kay has withdrawn a request for an proposed $18.5 million debt exclusion to fund repairs to Lovell Field and playground and several local buildings.
Kay said in a letter to town council president Patrick O’Connor that she is withdrawing the measure to avoid confusion with other proposals.
The mayor was scheduled to bring the plan in front of the town council on Monday night and was originally proposed in March.

“Since that time, however, there appears to be quite a lot of confusion regarding these capital improvement measures and how they would work in conjunction with my FY2016 budget proposal. To remove any confusion in this regard it is my intent to present a comprehensive budget plan to the Town Council at your April 21, 2105 meeting that supports the immediate operational needs of the Town for FY2016 and addresses the long term capital projects as outlined in my capital plan as presented to the Town Council on March 16, 2015,” Kay said in the letter.
After the initial presentation, the council instead supported an alternative proposal for a $6.5 million override. Soon afterwards, the school committee voted to support the override over Kay’s debt exclusion plan.
