Mayor Proposes $11.4 Million Upgrade to Fields, Courts, and Playgrounds
The plan will go in front of the Town Council on Nov. 14.

WEYMOUTH, MA — A $11.4 million plan to upgrade the town's fields, courts, and playgrounds will go in front of the Town Council this month.
Mayor Robert Hedlund recently unveiled the plan, which includes a $6 million renovation of Lovell Field, two regulation-size synthetic-turf soccer fields and a smaller practice field, as well as lighting, new parking and a walking trail around the perimeter, according to the Patriot Ledger. The plan is a scaled-down version of a $18.5 million debt exclusion override proposed in 2015 by then-Mayor Susan Kay.
Unlike Kay's plan, the turf fields are further away from the herring run and organic fill would be used in the fields rather than material made from old tires.
