Mayor Renews Calls for Cameras in Lakeview Manor
Last month's major weapons arrest has renewed calls for cameras.

WEYMOUTH, MA — Following a major weapons arrest, Mayor Robert Hedlund plans on seeking approval from the Town Council to purchase 17 cameras for the Lakeview Manor public housing complex near Lake Street.
Hedlund told the Patriot Ledger that the arrest of Robert Kurtzer showed the need for the cameras. Previously, the Weymouth Housing Authority, which owns and manages the development, and the Weymouth Police Department requested the cameras last winter but the proposal was withdrawn. Unlike last time, which resulted is a $100,000 price tag from a company chosen without a bidding process, there will be a competitive process.
The cameras would be in public areas and police would be able to remotely view the footage.
