NFL ‘Blind’ Referee, Ted, Super Heroes Expected to be 2012's Hottest Halloween Costumes

Halloween is 20 days away and Itzaparty! in Weymouth is already tracking this year’s best costumes.  

Owner Steve Green got sales numbers sent to him on Friday and said the numbers show that the NFL “Blind” Referee and Ted are expected to be this year’s hottest adult costumes.

“The blind referee- we sold pretty much out of,” Green said.  “We only have a few pieces left in a couple stores and we’re getting more of that back in again.”

The Ted movie costume was pre-ordered by Itzaparty! and is expected to be available in stores starting this week.

The Blind Referee outfit will be used to joke about the recent NFL referee strike while the Ted costume is from Mark Wahlberg’s popular summer box office comedy, Green said.

In terms of kids costumes, Green said boys are going with Batman, Spiderman, Superman, Avengers, Mario Brothers, the “Annoying Orange”  and Ninjas from the Cartoon network show “Ninjago.”  Popular girl costumes include Rapunzel, Cinderella, brightly colored monster outfits and Monster High characters.

Other popular items include the “Morph” solid colored body suits and  Barrack Obama and Mitt Romney masks.

Itzaparty! employee Judy Venuto said it's still early in the month, but she is already noticing lots of boys selecting action hero and Star Wars costumes and many girls going with Lady Gaga and Katie Perry.  In addition to costumes, the party store also carries Halloween decorations, accessories, face paint, balloons,  door mats, candy and even spider webs and rubber bats and rats.

“We have everything in here,” Venuto said.
