No Decision Made on Compressor Station Deal

Mayor Robert Hedlund says he hasn't decided on whether to accept a $47 million deal from Spectra in exchange for dropping opposition

WEYMOUTH, MA - The deadline on a $47 million offer from Spectra Energy came and went with no response from Weymouth officials.

Weymouth Mayor Robert Hedlund told the Patriot Ledger that he had “not spoken with Spectra.” The energy company had given Hedlund until Wednesday to make a decision on the deal.

The proposal to build a compressor station near the Fore River Bridge has been wildly unpopular. Officials in the neighboring towns of Quincy and Braintree were not consulted on the offer, with the Braintree Town Council voting to write a letter of non-support to Spectra.
