Nurse Helps Save Choking Man In Weymouth BJ's
Sarah Morgan told WFXT-TV she's thankful her nursing skills helped her react in an emergency Monday night.
WEYMOUTH, MA – A quick-reacting nurse and alert customers may have helped save a man's life in Weymouth Monday night. Sarah Morgan told WFXT-TV that when she was told a man was choking at the deli counter she was able to dislodge the block and then helped stabilize the man through CPR until emergency services could respond.
Morgan told the station she was shopping Monday night when a woman ran up to her and asked her if she was a nurse. When she said she was, the woman told Morgan of the choking man and Morgan said she rushed to help. She said her nursing training helped her determine that the object was "pretty low down into his trachea" and she performed the Heimlich.
She said the man then stopped breathing and Morgan lowered the man to the ground with the help of another customer and began to perform CPR. The man was taken to the hospital and was expected to recover.

Morgan told the station it was a good lesson on why everyone should consider taking a course or attending a clinic on CPR and other emergency, potentially life-saving skills, and that she was happy to be at the right place at the right time to help.
"As nurses we always hope we make a difference," she told the station, "but something like that happens and you know that your skills were there."
