O'Connor, Meschino Win State Senate Primaries

But don't expect a remach for the Plymouth & Norfolk State Senate seat.

State senator Patrick O'Connor will move on to the general election following a decisive victory Thursday night.

With 71 percent of the vote in, the Weymouth senator leads Marshfield's Stephen Gill with 80 percent of the vote in the Plymouth & Norfolk District Republican Primary, according to Mass Live. Earlier this year, O'Connor won a special election to replace Bob Hedlund, who left the state Senate to become mayor of Weymouth.

On the Democratic side, a rematch appears to be in the making. Hull's Joan Meschino leads Brian Cook with 60 percent of the vote. Meschino lost to O'Connor in the special election. Meschino, however, told the Patriot Ledgerthat she will not accept the nomination and will run a write-in campaign for the House seat that’s being vacated by state Rep. Garrett Bradley.
