PHOTOS: Weymouth Community Comes Together For Marathon Victim

Seach community raised over $8K for a Boston Marathon victim who lost her leg.

The William Seach Primary School community  presented a check for $8,275 to Boston Marathon victim Mery Daniel on Wednesday morning.

Daniel is daughter of Seach School bus driver Harry Volmar. As a fundraiser, the Seach community walked a mile for her.

On Wednesday, Daniel was present at the Walk-a-thon and said the donations have deeply touched her heart, according to NECN.com. She said she was speechless and thankful.

Daniel is a 31-year-old mother living in Brockton who was wounded and lost her leg at the finish line of the marathon. Her other leg was badly injured and over the last month she has struggled with surgeries to keep it.

Liz Murray, a literacy coach at Seach and organizer of the event, said the school has collected donations from parents, businesses in town, police officers and even former students.

"We thought about a way all students could be involved, and we had all students ask for donations," Murray said.

Before the Boston Marathon attack, Daniel was enrolled at medical school in Europe.

Funds are still being collected for Daniel. Anyone interested can donate to her foundation at http://merydaniel.com.
