Postal Worker Charged in Weymouth Hit and Run

A postal worker from Whitman is facing charges after allegedly striking a woman on Samoset Street before driving away.
Edmund T. Hagerty, 40, was arrested Saturday and charged with leaving the scene of personal injury, operating a motor vehicle to endanger, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to the Weymouth Police Log.
According to a police report obtained by the Patriot Ledger, police responded to a report of someone getting hit by a mail truck at 5:38 p.m. Saturday. After Hagerty fled the scene, police found his work truck in the middle of the road while the postal worker was found on Forrest Street. Hagerty told police that the woman jumped in front of his vehicle and he slammed on the breaks.

The victim, a 44-year-old woman, was taken to South Shore Hospital for minor injuries.
Hagerty was arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court. He is free on his promise that he will return for his next court date on Dec. 30.
