Resident Calls For New Construction Ban

Wayne Mathews of East Weymouth is proposing for a moratorium on new construction until the town by-laws can be reviewed.

WEYMOUTH, MA — A local resident is calling on the town to halt all new construction until the town's zoning by-laws can be reviewed.

Monday, the town council's ordinance committee reviewed a request from Wayne Mathews of East Weymouth for a moratorium on new construction.

Mathews told the Patriot Ledger that Mayor Bob Hedlund's administration has been open to dialogue, but Hedlund said a moratorium would be "economic suicide."
