Retiring Weymouth Police Chief Signs Off For Final Time
Richard Grimes concluded a 42-year career in law enforcement in Weymouth on New Year's Eve.
WEYMOUTH, MA — It was the end of an era at the Weymouth Police Department Tuesday morning. Richard Grimes, who served law enforcement on the South Shore for 42 years, signed off for the final time on New Year's Eve during his last shift before retirement.
Grimes, who reached the mandatory retirement age of 65, will be replaced as chief by Capt. Richard Fuller, who will be officially sworn in on Thursday.

Grimes began his career in Scituate before transferring to Weymouth in 1982. He became the canine handler in 1996. He was promoted to the police chief position in 2009.
