Route 3 Crash: Man Called Police, Said He Struck Pedestrian

A Cranston, R.I. man called police saying he had struck a pedestrian Sunday evening.

WEYMOUTH, MA — A vehicle being driven by a Rhode Island man fatally struck a pedestrian on Route 3 North Sunday evening, State Police said. The crash occurred around 6:15 p.m. past exit 15. The left lane was closed for over an hour.

State Police said they received a call about someone walking on the ramp from Route 18 toward Route 3. While in response, police received another call from a 59-year-old Cranston, Rhode Island man saying he struck the pedestrian between exits 15 and 16.

Police said the man was traveling north in a 2006 Honda Accord when he struck the pedestrian in the left lane. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said it is investigating facts surrounding the crash, including why the pedestrian was walking on the highway. No charges have been filed.

The pedestrian has not been identified.
