While last year tutors assisted 325 homeless children in six communities, that number has jumped to 450 kids in seven communities.

School on Wheels is still in dire need of people willing to be volunteer tutors for homeless students.
The Brockton-based non-profit organization is still 100 tutors short of the 450 needed for this school year, said Robin Gilbert, School on Wheels’ director of operations.

School on Wheels also provides backpacks filled with supplies to our students at the start of each school year.
Then, the after-school tutoring sessions help to keep up with work.
No prior experience is required for the job but volunteers must attend a three-hour training session before starting.
Registration is online at http://sowma.org/get-involved/tutor-mentor/new-tutor-training.
