Scituate Man Charged with Attacking Weymouth Couple with Hammer, Knife

WEYMOUTH, MA — A Scituate man faces charges after allegedly striking a Weymouth's couple's home with a hammer, threatening them with a knife, and getting into a fight with a police officer.
Mark Anderson, 40, was arraigned in Quincy District Court Monday and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, possession of a burglarious instrument, malicious destruction of property over $250 and breaking and entering during the daytime to commit a felony, the Patriot Ledger reports. He is free on $1,000 cash bail.
Saturday afternoon, police responded to a report of an attack on Memorial Drive. Anderson allegedly attacked a couple of people before running away, according to a police report. The couple told police they knew Anderson but were unable to find him during a search.

When Anderson returned, he allegedly denied smashing pumpkins found outside the home before taking out a hammer he hit the door with. He then allegedly took out a hunting knife and starting swinging it toward the couple before dropping the knife and getting into a fight.
Anderson was taken into custody after running away. As he was taken into custody, there was a struggle, but the officer was able to hold him down.

Anderson is due back in court on Dec. 23.
