Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has named South Shore Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center in Knee and Hip Replacement.
The Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care program is a national designation awarded to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality specialty care.
Tony Dodek, MD, Vice President of Medical Quality and Strategy, and Associate Chief Medical Officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts said he applaud South Shore Hospital’s recognition as a Blue Distinction Center.

“They should be commended for their commitment to providing high-quality, affordable specialty health care focused on improving patient safety and outcomes," Dodek said.
The selection criteria used to evaluate facilities were developed with input from the medical community and include general quality and safety metrics plus program specific metrics. South Shore Hospital is proud to have met the rigorous selection criteria set by the Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care program.

“We are delighted to again receive this quality designation from Blue Distinction,” stated Owen McConville, MD, Chairman, Department of Orthopedic Surgery. “The commitment of our staff to continuous improvement and patient safety is reflected by this award. We are committed to quality care across the episode of care therefore we are actively collaborating with community Primary Care Providers, local Skilled Nursing Facilities and community Visiting Nurses Associations.”
