Spectra Could Meet With Weymouth Town Council Next Month
Town officials are hoping for answers about a recent gas leak at a gas metering station.

WEYMOUTH, MA — Town officials are hoping that Spectra Energy representatives will be able to meet with them next month.
Tuesday night, Councilor Becky Haugh told the town council that Spectra was invited to meet with the council this week, but were unable to make the meeting. A meeting between the two is likely next month.
Spectra, who owns a gas metering station on Bridge Street and is hoping to build a compressor station in North Weymouth, has faced controversy in town, most recently due to a gas leak at a metering station earlier this month.
“For myself, I live in the area and I smelled the gas and a lot of my neighbor smelled it too. It was a pretty dangerous smell,” Haugh said.

No one was injured due to the leak, with a faulty valve being blamed for the leak. Spectra officials told town officials in a Jan. 11 meeting that there has been a change in the company's and Weymouth fire's response protocol, all the valves that are similar to the one that failed have been changes, incorrect and ambiguous signs have been replaced, and if Weymouth fire responds to a call at the metering station, Spectra and National Grid will be notified immediately. Spectra was also receptive to a proposal for them to fund improved security monitoring and camera, Haugh said.
Unable to attend Tuesday’s meeting, Spectra told the council’s office that they would be available to attend the council’s Feb. 6 meeting.
