State Declines to Review Spectra Pipeline Project

Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Matthew Beaton recently declined a request by Mayor Robert Hedlund to review the proposed project

Weymouth, MA—A review of a proposed gas pipeline project set to go through Weymouth has been denied by the state.

Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Matthew Beaton recently declined a request by Mayor Robert Hedlund to review the impacts of a compressor station in North Weymouth.

"I was hopeful the state would be able to do what the Feds have refused to do so far - review all the impacts a compressor station in North Weymouth would cause. Secretary Beaton's letter, however, disappointed me," Hedlund said in a release.

Energy company Spetra is hoping to install part of the Northeast Access project in Weymouth and Braintree. The proposed pipeline would bring more natural gas to the area, but would also mean a compression station in North Weymouth. Reaction to the project has been overwhelmingly negative.
