Town Council Votes to Take Land for Intersection Improvements

The acquisition is aimed at improving the intersection at Middle Street and Libbey Industrial Parkway.

WEYMOUTH, MA — A Town Council vote to take private property will allow a project aimed to improving the intersection at Middle Street and Libbey Industrial Parkway to continue.

At a recent meeting, the council voted to obtain the land in order to meet a late August deadline to receive federal funds, according to the Boston Globe.

Work on the intersection is scheduled to begin next spring and will include the installation of a traffic light, lane widening, and the addition of turning lanes.

One resident at the meeting told the council that the move unfairly affected a homeowner and not a nearby commercial property. Other residents said they look forward to seeing a traffic. The 11 affected private landowners will receive about $33,000 for the land acquisition and easements.
